Yesterday, Trump’s FCC Chair Brendan Carr threatened ABC over a joke Jimmy
Kimmel made — saying, “We can do this the easy way or the hard way.”
Just hours later, Jimmy Kimmel was pulled from the air.
Let’s be clear: this is about so much more than just a late-night
comedian. It’s about control, and an escalating pattern of textbook
authoritarian behavior,
John.
Trump’s going after anyone who refuses to fall in line with his MAGA
agenda. And if he’s able to silence well-connected, powerful voices like
Jimmy Kimmel and Stephen Colbert, the rest of us are in serious trouble.
This is how authoritarian states rise,
John. They silence dissent,
eliminate opposition, make it so that only one viewpoint is tolerated —
and punish anyone who dares to disagree.
The First Amendment, democracy, and the basic right to speak and live
freely without fear of retribution are all on the line like never before.
That’s why I will continue to be one of the loudest voices calling out his
authoritarian power-grabs because that’s what democracy relies on.
