An optimistic upland bird outlook plus more than 1 million acres of publicly accessible lands make this a great year to pursue your first (or even your sixth!) Upland Slam certificate. Fly-fishing, fly-tying class for beginners
Aspiring fly-fishing anglers take note: a beginners class for fly-fishing and fly-tying is happening at Chadron State Park on Oct. 4. You'll learn the basics of both topics; including equipment, materials, tools and techniques. Space is limited, so register now. Some park lodging may be available. (Reserve lodging separately online or by contacting the park).

Fall means turkey time
Nebraska's fall turkey season opens Oct. 1, so now is the time to be making plans, scouting for birds and brushing up on fall turkey regulations. The season ends Nov. 30, so you'll want to make the most of those two months by starting early. Youth permits are still just $8, so bring a young hunter along for the adventure!
