Dear John,
Yesterday the British government rolled out the red carpet for a flagrantly authoritarian leader – and together, we stood up against it.
We’re incredibly proud to have played a crucial role in stopping Trump from addressing Parliament. His visit is already a bridge too far, but allowing him to speak down to MPs would have been egregious. Over 40,000 signed our petition this summer, and we know from conversations we’ve had with MPs and Peers that it played a huge role in shaping the debate inside Parliament.
As part of the #StopTrumpCoalition, we’re also proud to have joined thousands taking to the streets yesterday to show Donald Trump that his brand of hate and division has no place here.
Since his state visit was announced, Trump’s authoritarian clampdown has only escalated. His administration threatens to strip citizens of their passports for voicing dissent, and his allies in the far-right are emboldened - as we saw with the UK’s largest far-right march at the weekend.
