Dear Neighbor,
In October, I will be hosting two virtual events on Medicare issues. The first, on October 7th, will be a Virtual Town Hall on upcoming changes to Medicare. The second event, on October 14th, will be Session II of this year's Older Adult Roundtable Series, which will deal with federal cuts to Medicare and Medicaid.
See below for more information and RSVP details for both events.
On an unrelated note, please be aware that New York City has scheduled twenty gridlock alert days between mid-September and mid-December of 2025, where traffic is anticipated to slow to as low as 4mph in certain parts of the City, including our district.
Next week, from September 22-26, includes the first four gridlock alert days due to the United Nations General Assembly being in town. If you are traveling next week, you may want to choose to take public transit, which is a far more reliable option. Within New York City, you can take the subway system (buses may be slower due to the gridlock alert days, although many travel within protected bus lanes and will not be as affected by traffic). If you are going to New Jersey, you can take NJ Transit or PATH, and if you are traveling out of the city to Long Island, Connecticut, or Upstate, you can take the Metro North or the LIRR.
This article has more information about specific street closures around the UN next week.
