Indivisibles,

The Trump regime’s attacks on dissent are escalating. They’re suing media organizations, bullying networks into taking comedians off the air, deploying troops to cities, extorting law firms, and weaponizing the entirety of the government against Trump’s political enemies.

The regime’s goal is to silence opposition through fear. To make professors think twice before speaking their minds. To make media outlets kill stories before they go to print. To make advocacy organizations pull back from our work to save democracy.

It’s a scary moment. But one thing we know: Authoritarians succeed in consolidating power because most of it is freely given. Institutions cave to threats rather than fighting back, and in doing so, they teach tyrants to take more and more.

Screw that. The people hold far more power than Trump’s feeble regime, and the best way for us to protect our rights is by exercising them. That’s why we’re taking to the streets on October 18 for No Kings Day. Together, we’ll face Trump’s repressive tactics with millions taking to the streets in peaceful, open defiance.

With one month left until October 18, we need your help to prepare and make No Kings Day a success. If you’re able to, please click here to pitch in and ensure our hosts, volunteers, and attendees have everything they need to make No Kings one of the largest days of protest in US history.

Far too many institutions have caved to Trump already. It has emboldened him to become even more aggressive with his threats in the false belief that the American people will submit to corrupt rule.

But as millions of us told Trump back in June, Americans don’t do kings. Now, it’s time for a reminder. A bigger, louder reminder that will be heard not only by Trump, but by our lawmakers, business leaders, academics, judges, and others this administration has tried to intimidate into giving up their power. When we show up peacefully, and defiantly, it gives others the courage to speak up too and pushes more people to join the pro-democracy coalition.

Regimes think twice before escalating repression if they know it only ends up growing the opposition. That is the lesson we’ve learned from other anti-authoritarian movements around the world, and it’s what best protects our rights in the long run. But putting this lesson into action takes organizing, strategic clarity, and a ton of resources.

Over the next four weeks, we’ll be working to provide hosts and attendees with resources like safety and security training, messaging and event promotion guidance, and direct support for our anchor events across the country. But we’re counting on grassroots donors to help us fund these tools and resources. So please, if you’re able to, click here to pitch in and make No Kings Day as big, powerful, and effective as possible.
