John,
Last week, U.S. Senator Peter Welch caved and became the first Democrat to
help confirm one of Donald Trump’s judicial nominees in his second term —
and we’re calling him out.
[ [link removed] ]Bloomberg Law: Sen. Peter Welch (D-Vt.) came under pressure from a
progressive advocacy group after becoming the first and only Democrat so
far to support a Donald Trump judicial nominee in the president’s second
term.
The Democratic senator from Vermont joined every Republican in the 53-45
vote, confirming Kyle Dudek to a lifetime position on the U.S. District
Court for the Middle District of Florida. Dudek has an extensive history
of defending misconduct by police officers and government officials.
There is no legitimate reason for ANY Democrat to vote for a single one of
Trump’s judicial nominees, given the lawless actions of his administration
and his attacks on the federal courts.
Helping to confirm judicial nominees who have been plainly chosen for
their loyalty to Trump does an incredible disservice to the American
people–and will impact our rights for decades to come.
That’s why Demand Justice launched its Senate Vote Tracker to monitor how
Democrats vote on Trump’s dangerous nominees, and hold them accountable
for reckless votes like this one.
