John,

Yesterday should have been a day of celebration — Mexican Independence Day, when families of Latino heritage across Illinois gather in pride and joy.

Instead, ICE turned it into a day of fear.

Federal agents stormed Elgin in a coordinated raid designed as a racist dog whistle — a deliberate attack timed to intimidate Latino families during a day of celebration. And to make matters worse, DHS Secretary Kristi Noem — nicknamed “ICE Barbie” for her habit of dressing up in uniform and posing for pictures — flew in from Washington to join this bigoted political theater.

But their cruelty turned into humiliation. In front of those cameras, ICE agents arrested two U.S. citizens — and their only “crime” was being Latino in America. This is what happens when racial profiling is legalized by the Supreme Court: innocent people are dragged away in handcuffs while politicians like Kristi Noem pose for photo-ops.

This is blatant racism, sanctioned at the highest levels of government. It’s dangerous. And it’s why our community has to stand together.

I’ve been on the frontlines of this fight: standing shoulder to shoulder with families targeted by ICE, educating people about their rights, and using my platform to call out fascism and racial profiling for what it is. Once elected, I’ll take that fight directly to Congress.

Can you chip in $15, $25, or whatever you can right now to show that our communities will never bow to racist intimidation?

Kristi Noem didn’t come to Illinois to keep families safe — she came to terrorize them for a photo-op. And we’re not going to let her get away with it.
