OBBB Deep Dive: Supporting Small Businesses

As you well know, I proudly voted for the One Big Beautiful Bill (OBBB), which President Trump signed into law on July 4th. Last week, I highlighted how Republicans’ OBBB makes critical investments in rural America. Thankfully, the OBBB also includes tax cuts and pro-growth policies that support small businesses.

Without the One Big Beautiful Bill, more than 58,400 small businesses in the Ninth District would have been hit with a 43.4% tax rate. In fact, our historic law permanently extends key Trump economic tax policies, including permanent 100% immediate expensing, permanent 20% small business deduction, permanent immediate expensing for research and development in the U.S., and permanent deduction for interest expenses. Moreover, the OBBB allows small businesses to invest in their employees and grow by increasing the more generous 179 Small Business Expensing to $2.5 million. Additionally, the OBBB unlocks $1.5 trillion in additional small business GDP growth and an estimated 1 million new small business jobs annually over the next decade.

I’m incredibly proud that the One Big Beautiful Bill delivers major wins to working families and job creators. Promises made, promises kept!

Rep. Clyde’s CLEAN D.C. Act Passes Out of Committee

Last week, the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform voted to advance my legislation, the Commonsense Law Enforcement and Accountability Now (CLEAN) in D.C. Act. My commonsense bill repeals the D.C. City Council’s radical Comprehensive Policing and Justice Reform Emergency Amendment Act of 2022, which has prevented our men and women in blue from effectively protecting Americans in our nation’s capital, hindered the Metropolitan Police Department’s (MPD) ability to recruit and retain officers, and exacerbated Washington’s crime crisis. Specifically, the D.C. Council’s anti-police law weakens the MPD by banning longstanding and proven police tactics, stripping legal protections and due process rights for officers, threatening police officer safety by authorizing public release of records, and imposing restrictions on policing protests and the use of non-lethal crowd control.

I’m pleased that the House Oversight Committee approved my commonsense legislation to repeal the D.C. Council’s anti-police law, and I look forward to the House swiftly passing the CLEAN D.C. Act with bipartisan support so we can move this critical bill one step closer to President Trump’s desk.

House Appropriations Committee Advances All FY26 Spending Bills

Successfully drafting, amending, and advancing all twelve Fiscal Year 2026 appropriations bills marks both an accomplishment for the House Appropriations Committee and a return to regular order. Last week, we did just that. I’m proud of the work my fellow Republican appropriators and I have completed in our shared effort to deliver strong, fiscally responsible, and America First spending bills to the American people. Throughout this process, I have fought for and secured both commonsense wins for our Ninth District and conservative victories for our country.

For example, in the FY26 Energy and Water appropriations bill, I fought to include a commonsense provision that prohibits the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) from using taxpayer funds to rename civil works projects such as Lake Lanier. Additionally, in the FY26 Commerce, Justice, Science, and Related Agencies appropriations bill, I successfully included language to defund the registration of suppressors and short-barreled firearms under the draconian National Firearms Act (NFA). This builds on my efforts to restore our Second Amendment freedoms in the OBBB, which eliminated NFA taxes for these firearms.

Rest assured, as Congress works to avert a government shutdown before current funding expires on September 30th, I remain committed to supporting the most fiscally responsible and conservative government funding bill possible.

District Spotlight

As you may know, Fannin County received devastating news Friday night. McCaysville Police Captain Brantley Worley — a husband, father, and heroic public servant — was tragically shot while responding to a suspicious person call. After a daylong manhunt, police arrested and charged 26-year-old Timothy Ramsey with aggravated assault with intent to commit murder against a police officer. Captain Worley has been discharged from the hospital and showing remarkable signs of improvement. Praise God!

Please join me in praying for Captain Worley’s full and speedy recovery, as well as for his family, friends, and fellow law enforcement officers during this difficult time. May God bless and protect our men and women in blue as they selflessly put their lives on the line for our communities.

Week Ahead

This week in Washington, lawmakers will consider the following pieces of legislation:

H.R. 4922, the DC CRIMES Act: In Washington, D.C., 18 to 24-year-old criminals can be sentenced as juveniles, often resulting in adult criminals facing little to no consequences — which then embolden them to commit additional crimes. The commonsense DC CRIMES Act allows Congress to exert our oversight power over the radical D.C. City Council and promote safety in our nation’s capital by lowering the age that defines a “youth” from under 25 to under 18 and blocking the Council’s pursuit of soft-on-crime sentencing and radical progressive policies.
H.R. 5143, the District of Columbia Policing Protection Act of 2025: This legislation amends the D.C. City Council’s so-called Comprehensive Policing and Justice Reform Amendment Act of 2022 to allow Metropolitan Police Department officers to engage in vehicular pursuit of a suspect fleeing in a motor vehicle, which is the most effective means of apprehension, if the officer deems it necessary and without unreasonable risk to bystanders. Additionally, H.R. 5143 develops a trial system that would alert people to police pursuits in their immediate vicinity.
H.R. 5125, the District of Columbia Judicial Nominations Reform Act of 2025: This bill repeals the D.C. Judicial Nomination Commission and restores the authority to the President to choose his judicial nominees to the D.C. courts.
H.R. 5140, the DC Juvenile Sentencing Reform Act: This critical legislation lowers the age at which a minor may be tried as an adult for certain violent criminal offenses, including murder, sexual abuse, armed robbery, and first degree burglary, in the District of Columbia from 16 to 14 years of age.
H.R. 3062, the Promoting Cross-border Energy Infrastructure Act: This bill establishes a more streamlined and transparent framework for approving the construction, connection, operation, and maintenance of international border-crossing facilities for the import and export of oil and natural gas and the transmission of electricity, removing regulatory uncertainty and promoting energy security.
H.R. 3015, the National Coal Council Reestablishment Act: This legislation reestablishes and codifies the National Coal Council to provide industry expertise to the Department of Energy through guidance, reports, and recommendations on matters affecting the coal industry and the future of coal technologies, and gets rid of the biennial renewal requirement.
H.R. 1047, the Guaranteeing Reliability through the Interconnection of Dispatchable (GRID) Power Act: The GRID Power Act enables grid operators to expedite consideration of essential power generation projects that will increase grid reliability by moving them to the front of the line for approval, which will help provide the necessary power to meet America’s growing demand.
