Dear Friend,

Today marks the beginning of Hispanic Heritage Month! This month, we will take time to reflect and uplift Latino stories and voices.

To kick off Hispanic Heritage Month, I am launching my fourth annual call for public suggestions of Latino songs and albums to be added to the prestigious National Recording Registry. Currently, less than 5% of artists in the registry are Latino.

Nominate Your Favorite Songs and Albums by Latino Artists

Each year, I look through your nominations and compile a list to formally submit to the National Recording Preservation Board for consideration. Earlier this year, the Library of Congress selected three of our nominations—Vicente Fernández’s “El Rey,” our very own Texan Freddy Fender’s “Before the Next Teardrop Falls,” and Lin Manuel Miranda’s album “Hamilton.”

Thank you for helping me recognize Latino talent. To submit your nominations, visit castro.house.gov/music. To qualify for nomination, songs and albums must be at least ten years old. Submissions must be received by Sunday, September 21 at 11:59 PM CT to be eligible for my official nomination.

Thank you for taking the time to read this. I am very proud to represent San Antonio in the U.S. House of Representatives, and I look forward to staying in touch with you.

Sincerely,
