Dear friend,
This Friday, opponents could attempt to wreck the assisted dying Bill.
At the eleventh hour last week, anti-choice Peers tabled an amendment that would, in effect, wreck the Bill by causing it to run out of time before the end of the deadline created by the parliamentary timetable ending in late Spring. The amendment - to require the Bill to be seen by a completely separate Committee in the House of Lords - is intended to look reasonable. But it is effectively a wrecking amendment that would deny all dying people choice.
We’ve got just 4 days to ensure that Peers know what’s going on, and tell them that they must be in the chamber on Friday, ready to defend the Bill’s progress. Will you send one final email to Peers today?
MPs have repeatedly and decisively backed this Bill. The role of the Lords is to further scrutinise it - not to scrap it completely.
The unelected chamber must not roll back the progress of this Bill - especially given the settled opinion of both MPs and the public that has powered its journey so far.
I’ve said before that at every parliamentary stage the stakes are raised. Opponents have tried and failed multiple times to prevent this Bill going any further. We have to make sure they fail again.
Thank you for taking action at this important moment.
Keep fighting the good fight,
Sadie

P.S. I know it must feel like every email we send requires urgent action. That’s because they do. We cannot take our recent wins for granted - we have to give Peers all the evidence they need to keep up this progress. Please write to Peers today.
