Dear Reader,
People frequently tell us they donate because they believe journalism is one of the best ways to make sense of events and hold power to account.
On
Democracy Day ([link removed]) , we’re reminded that one of the strongest safeguards of democracy is a free and independent press. We’re proud to share that a Public Source story was selected as one of the three best examples of impactful democracy-focused content in the country by the organizers of Democracy Day. The story, by a reporter embedded with volunteers tracking ICE activity across our region, also resonated deeply with our readers, who told us, “I needed to see those images” and credited the story with raising their awareness.
DONATE ([link removed])
While we’re grateful for recognition of our team’s work, we don’t do this for awards. Every day, our newsroom works to shine light on how policies and official decisions shape our lives — how people learn, where they live, how they express themselves, how (and whether) they make ends meet. We go beyond simplistic headlines to show what government actions really mean for you and your community.
But journalism is more than watchdog reporting. It’s also storytelling that brings nuance and context — neighbors stepping up in schools, organizations and communities to meet needs and strengthen our region’s civic fabric.
This work is only possible because readers like you believe in the power of local, independent journalism. With your help, we can continue to provide the trustworthy reporting and storytelling our region depends on.
You're not a current Public Source member. If you believe journalism like ours is important for democracy, please join over 1,200+ people who help make it possible — make a donation today. ([link removed])
