This past week, September 7–13, was National Suicide Prevention Week. At the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, we also observe all of September as National Suicide Prevention Month –– because suicide is a leading public health issue that affects us all.

Through the theme of “Looking Out for Each Other,” we’re continuing to shed light on the importance of interpersonal connection in the fight against suicide.

So many members of AFSP’s community have found their way to us through in-person events like our Out of the Darkness Walks. But there are so many other ways, both in person and virtual, that you can get involved in our mission to save lives and bring hope to those affected by suicide. And once you do get involved, you’re bound to build powerful relationships with people who intimately understand and support you, whatever your connection to the cause.

Connect With AFSP

This September, here are just a few ways you can get involved with AFSP’s community:

- Join a [Community Walk]([link removed]) near you! AFSP's Out of the Darkness Walks bring nearly a quarter of a million people together each year, sending the message that suicide can no longer exist in the shadows, and raising much-needed awareness and funds for this leading cause of death.

- Register for a [Caring Communities]([link removed].) presentation. At 7 p.m. ET on September 30, attend a presentation of Caring Communities: Guidance for Supporting Survivors of Suicide Loss –– AFSP’s new education program about how to support someone who has experienced a recent loss to suicide.

- Shop the [Happiness Project]([link removed]) capsule! For National Suicide Prevention Month, Happiness Project is donating 100% of profits from its limited-edition AFSP x Happiness Project Hoodie + Tee directly to AFSP. This September, every purchase helps us fund our mission to save lives and bring hope to those affected by suicide.

- Learn about our new [Hard Hat Courage]([link removed]) initiative. In partnership with Bechtel, AFSP founded Hart Hat Courage to confront high rates of suicide in the construction community, and to evolve the industry into one that prioritizes mental health alongside physical safety.

- Tune into [Audacy’s “I’m Listening”]([link removed]) broadcast special! September 9–15, tune into your [local radio station]([link removed]) to hear AFSP Chief Medical Officer Dr. Christine Yu Moutier in conversation with Audacy’s host Katie Neil about youth, maternal, and first responder mental health. Learn helpful information and tips that can help you better look out for each other this September and beyond.

For our most recent events, make sure to check our [national calendar]([link removed]) throughout the month.
