Donald Trump is promising to go to war with American cities.
First, he deployed the National Guard and the Marines in Los Angeles to racially profile residents and carry out his immoral mass deportations. Then, he seized control of Washington, D.C.’s police and flooded the streets with federal law enforcement. Now, he’s promising to use his newly renamed Department of War on the streets of Chicago.
Here in California, we know firsthand what Trump’s use of the military looks like. His goal is simple: enforce his draconian deportation policy by any means necessary—terrorizing immigrant communities and tearing innocent families apart.
The Supreme Court has even ruled that ICE can arrest people in LA without probable cause—simply based on their race, ethnicity, or the language they speak. That opens the door to even more mass roundups and racial profiling by unaccountable presidential police that violate the Constitution and our core freedoms.
California’s next governor must stand up to Trump’s shameful policies—and Katie Porter will be that governor. She held Trump accountable in Congress, and she’ll keep fighting for all Californians as governor.
