Earlier this year, SEEC Members — including Reps. Mike Quigley (IL-05), Sean Casten (IL-06), Jared Huffman (CA-02), and Maxine Dexter (OR-03) — visited the Great Smoky Mountains National Park to better understand the impacts of climate change and pollution.
We learned about the incredible progress that has been made to clean up the air around the park. Thanks in part to an EPA program that limited industrial emissions in an effort to reduce “regional haze,” families were breathing clean air again. Visitors could see the full splendor of the Smokies — clear skies restored after decades of pollution control.
But now, Trump’s EPA wants to undo it all. They’ve advanced a plan to weaken national park air quality protections, threatening to let polluters cloud our skies and put our health at risk. We can’t let them erase this progress. Our parks — and our people — deserve better.
Together, we can ensure future generations experience the full beauty of our national parks — the way they were meant to be seen.
