Tell Governor Josh Shapiro: Protect vote by mail from Trump’s attacks >>
John, Trump is once again pushing the same debunked lies he’s used for years to attack one of our most secure and widely-used voting methods: vote by mail. [1]
But the facts are clear: Study after study shows that vote by mail strengthens our democracy by making it easier for everyone to participate – without giving an advantage to any particular political party. [2]
It’s a lifeline for working parents juggling jobs and kids. It’s how seniors and people with disabilities make their voices heard without facing long, inaccessible lines. It’s how military members serving overseas participate in the democracy they’re defending.
But Trump is determined to tear it all down. It’s just the latest attack in his larger scheme to undermine free and fair elections and shield himself from accountability for his unpopular policies.
Add your voice: Urge Governor Josh Shapiro to publicly declare our state’s commitment to vote by mail and ensure access for all eligible voters >>
From gerrymandering Texas to carve out more Republican-leaning districts, to pushing the SAVE Act that could knock millions of eligible voters off the rolls, Trump and his allies are working relentlessly to suppress voters by any means possible.
And it’s no mystery why. Their agenda of slashing healthcare, handing tax breaks to billionaires, and sending troops to invade our cities is deeply unpopular. Instead of earning support at the ballot box, Trump is trying to restrict who can cast a ballot at all.
The good news is the Constitution is clear: only Congress – NOT the president – has the authority to override states when it comes to election laws. [3]
That’s exactly why governors must stay strong against these attacks. State leaders have the constitutional authority – and the duty – to defend vote by mail and protect voters from Trump’s overreach.
Tell Governor Josh Shapiro: I urge you to protect vote by mail from Trump’s attacks.
Thanks for all you do,
The team at Common Cause
