This Thursday July, 2nd the House of Representatives will take its first formal step in repairing our nation's crumbling infrastructure and kickstarting our COVID-19 economic recovery. The Moving Forward Act (HR 2) marks a transformational investment in American infrastructure that will create millions of jobs, take bold action on the climate crisis, and address disparities in urban, suburban and rural communities across our country. The act will create jobs and promote commerce, but its passage is not guaranteed. We implore you to sign on to the American Sustainable Business Council’s letter of support and send your message directly to your Congressional representatives. Addressing our nation’s diminishing infrastructure stock is bipartisan in essence. The Moving Forward Act’s $1.5T price tag is at the same level of spending President Trump called for in his first official State of the Union address. With Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell calling for more government spending to help alleviate the economic suffering millions of American’s are experiencing, this vote could not come at a better time. ASBC is also supporting the creation of a means to funding badly needed infrastructure projects without incurring additional debt or taxpayer financing through the National Infrastructure Bank Act of 2020 (HR 6422), which will create 25 million high-paying jobs. The NIB will leverage public funds and private dollars to invest in infrastructure such as transportation, water resources, environmental, energy, telecommunications and SMART Cities infrastructure, and public facilities projects. This is our moment to finally secure national infrastructure relief that will benefit both businesses and diverse communities alike. | |
