Statement issued about the Karcher Fire at South Kitsap Regional Park

Commissioner Root Header

*Sept. 12, 2025*

Good afternoon, everyone

Today, South Kitsap Fire and Rescue [ [link removed] ] responded to a brush fire covering approximately half an acre in the forested area of South Kitsap Regional Park (Jackson Park) [ [link removed] ] in Port Orchard. While the fire is now under control, crews will remain on scene throughout the evening to ensure all hot spots are fully extinguished.

I want to express my deepest gratitude to the firefighters and emergency personnel who responded quickly and professionally to contain this fire in challenging terrain. Their dedication and expertise prevented what could have been a much more serious situation affecting our community.

For public safety, I ask all community members to avoid the northwest side of the park and stay clear of the area while crews complete their work. Please give our first responders the space they need to do their jobs safely and effectively. The remainder of South Kitsap Regional Park will remain open for normal operations throughout the weekend.

The Kitsap County Fire Marshal will be investigating the cause of the fire. This incident serves as an important reminder that all of Kitsap County remains under a Phase 2 outdoor burn ban [ [link removed] ]. With dry conditions persisting throughout our region, even small fires can quickly spread and endanger our forests, parks, and communities. I urge everyone to take fire safety seriously and follow all burn ban restrictions to protect what makes our County special.

Thank you for your cooperation and continued support of our first responders who are working around the clock to keep our communities safe.

Warm regards,

Oran
