I’ve said from the start that our campaign for governor won’t be a walk in
the park—and the past few weeks have proved it.

One of our opponents launched an attack ad against me, spending big money
to tear down the movement we’re building to lower costs, defend health
care, and stand up to Donald Trump.

Here’s the truth: our campaign is being targeted because I’m the
Democratic frontrunner. Poll after poll has shown us in the lead—and
gaining momentum fast.

But that could change on a dime. More wealthy candidates could jump in and
flood the airwaves with ads. Republicans, already close behind in the
polls, could lean on their super PACs to drown out our message.

We need to be ready. Reaching voters across California—on TV, online, and
in every community—takes serious resources.

I’ve never shied away from a big fight, and right now the stakes could not
be higher. California’s next governor has to be ready to take on Trump
every time he goes after our state. I’m ready for that challenge, but I
can’t do it alone.
