John,
Apparently, racism is legal in the United States.
The Supreme Court’s awful ruling has given ICE the green light to racially profile people in California.
Californians don’t have to look hard to see echoes of one of our most shameful parts of our history – the internment of Japanese and Asian-Americans in the 1940s, with over 120,000 Americans inhumanely held in concentration camps in Tule Lake and Manzanar. And now the highest court in the country, stacked by Trump sycophants, has ruled we can do it again.
They’re doing this because Trump’s MAGA regime wants us to be afraid.
But what they don't understand about our immigrant communities, and California as a whole, is what I see every day: Courage. Community. Persistence. People showing up for each other even when the risk is great.
It is critical that we have a governor to match that energy, and bring that same fight to Sacramento.
While Controller, our state passed legislation that has kept our state’s law enforcement from being commandeered by an authoritarian leader for illegal raids.
And as Governor, I’m going to take multiple steps to keep ICE out of California, by any and all tools at my disposal.
