As Summer comes to an end, I want to share a recap of the work I’ve been doing these past couple of months.

Over the August District Work Period in Congress, I had the opportunity to spend more time in the district, meet with new and familiar faces, hear your stories, and engage with leaders across the San Gabriel Valley.

However, this summer was not without its challenges. Our community is still working hard to recover from the devastating Eaton Fire, and we’ve also endured the cruelty of Trump’s ICE raids. In the face of these hardships, I’ve been moved by how many of you have spoken out, reached out to my office asking how you could help, and shown such care for one another during these difficult times.

I am deeply grateful to represent a community that meets every challenge with such resilience and compassion.

Here’s a look at what I’ve been up to in July and August.

I was honored to be a part of the final Eaton Fire residential property clean up. This marked the fastest residential wildfire cleanup in U.S. history, covering 9,300+ properties. To learn more visit: Altadena home of iconic artist is the last to begin debris removal in Eaton fire area.

Eight months after the Los Angeles wildfires, recovery continues. We’ve made real progress, but survivors still face urgent needs such as affordable, long-term housing. That’s why I’m pushing in Congress for a $34 billion disaster aid package to get families the resources to rebuild.

If you need help navigating recovery, please reach out to my office or visit:

We will rebuild, I will never stop fighting for you.

In July, President Trump signed my Tax Filing Relief for Natural Disasters Act into law. I first introduced this bill back in 2019. This law ensures families and businesses in disaster zones, like our community after the Eaton Fire in January can receive tax filing relief even before the president declares a disaster. It empowers the IRS to extend filing deadlines immediately, without waiting for a federal disaster declaration, and guarantees at least 120 days of relief.

It has been heartbreaking to see our community torn apart by Trump’s cruel and often unlawful ICE raids. As part of my oversight authority, I’ve conducted visits to detention centers, pushed for better conditions, and worked to secure the release of detainees.

Here are some of the steps I’ve taken to protect our immigrant communities:

VISITED:

CO-LED:
VISIBLE Act -This bill prohibits immigration enforcement officers from wearing non-medical face coverings and requires them to display visible identification to ensure they are held accountable. Under Trump’s mass deportation agenda, too many officers conceal their identity with unmarked gear, leaving the public unable to confirm if they’re legitimate officials. Learn more HERE.

SENT: Letter to DHS and ICE urging action against ICE impersonators harassing women. It calls for agents to clearly identify themselves during enforcement and for accountability to protect women’s safety. Learn more HERE.

Please share my immigration resource page for anyone who might find the information useful:

It was an honor to co-host my annual Veterans Forum with Rep. Gil Cisneros. This is an opportunity for Veterans, their families, and key service providers for a day of connection, resources, and support. Watch a short recap HERE.

I loved celebrating National Night Out in Monterey Park, Rosemead, Temple City, and San Gabriel! I’m deeply grateful to our first responders for their service, dedication, and tireless work to keep our communities safe.

Other Bills I have introduced these past few weeks:

  • Bipartisan Stomach Cancer Prevention and Early Detection Act
    • This bipartisan legislation would review the current state of stomach cancer in the United States and provide actionable recommendations to improve prevention, screening, and early detection.
  • Creative Relief and Expensing for Artistic Entertainment, or ‘‘CREATE” Act,
    • This bipartisan bill would extend and strengthen Section 181, the only federal tax incentive for U.S.-made films, television, live theater, and sound recordings, by allowing a 100% deduction of production costs in the same year they are incurred. This incentive leads to significant economic growth and jobs across Southern California and the San Gabriel Valley.

  • Fulbright Teacher’s Loan Forgiveness Act
    • This bill ensures that participants in the Fulbright Teacher Exchange and Teaching Assistant programs qualify for student debt relief under the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) program.

Trump & Republicans’ law slashes clean energy tax credits, but there is still time left to claim what you’re entitled to and save thousands.

I had the opportunity to visit the Western States Carpenters Local 323 Training Center. It was so fun to meet with young workers who are working to build a stable career and a secure future. I will always fight to raise the wage, protect the right to organize, and put more money back in people’s pockets.
