David from Bulloch County asked about the immigration raid at the Hyundai Plant in Ellabell:

Congressman Allen: "Were they illegal? Yes. But we have to have some legal [immigrant worker] programs. The real problem in this country is that we don't have a workforce anymore...we've got to stop the drug trafficking and the killing of Americans. That should be number one. But the world is changing. It's competitive, it's an economic competition, and we have got to fix this [immigrant worker] problem."

Bridget from Burke County asked about internet access in rural areas:

Congressman Allen: "Under the previous administration, there were many missteps. I serve on the Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Communications and Technology as Vice Chairman, which has the most extensive oversight over rural broadband of any committee in Congress. Broadband access is vital to rural America and economic growth. Congress has appropriated well over 300 billion stimulus dollars to states and local governments that can be used to provide broadband access. The problem is, it is distributed among six different agencies, and they have just mishandled the whole thing. I worry that the money we are appropriating to provide the rural broadband is not being spent efficiently. The Energy and Commerce Committee is continuing to hold hearings and investigating the use of those federal broadband dollars to make sure that we get this done."

Deborah from Glennville asked about Georgia's timber industry:

Congressman Allen: "The largest thing that would help would be to get interest rates down so people could afford homes, and all of a sudden, there would be a huge demand for wood products. I know lumber prices are down. If we could get interest rates down, I think you would see an explosion in activity in that industry. But obviously, what we need to do is return the economy to the people and get the government out of it, get the regulations out of it, and we can compete with anybody. And also on our trade, I can remember at one time that we were shipping a lot of our wood products overseas. We need to get back to doing that as well as fair trade negotiations."

Richard from Columbia County asked about leadership at the Augusta VA Hospital:

Congressman Allen: "I just visited the VA in Augusta. We have an interim leader there. I encourage veterans to call our office if you've got a problem with the VA, and we will tackle it for you. The one thing that I mentioned that I've seen in the VA is they just circulate these leadership positions. I would like to make all of the VAs more autonomous and have a local board, and hire the best and brightest to come in and run those hospitals and deal with employees that are not serving our veterans. And like I said, veterans, please call our office with your issues, and I promise you we will help."
