In case you missed it, Congressman Rick W. Allen (GA-12) hosted a telephone town hall earlier this week to answer questions from residents across Georgia’s 12th District. More than 3,000 constituents joined Monday’s call where Congressman Allen provided updates on current issues, legislation he is leading in the 119th Congress, and more. For those unable to participate in the call, here are some of the highlights:
Staten from Evans asked how the OBBB will impact seniors:
Congressman Allen: "...the social security tax cancellation promised by Trump included in the OBBB is an additional $6,000 tax break for seniors below a certain income threshold, which would be added to the $15,000 standard deduction in an already existing $2,000 deduction for seniors."
Beverly from Augusta asked about the USPS substation located at Surrey Center Pharmacy:
Congressman Allen: "From a timing standpoint, it couldn't be worse...the Post Office can close anything down, anytime they want to. Congress has got to fix that; there needs to be hearings, the people need to have a voice. I talked to Postmaster General Steiner and asked: don't you care about customers? I have urged everybody that has called our office to call his office. The closing date has been set at September 30th, so we've got a short period of time to work through this, but we've had lawyers look at the contract."
