Hi ,
Christopher Luxon said he was “quite relaxed” about cutting another $8.5 billion to make his Budget add up.
He may be relaxed - but I’m deeply worried, because that means more cuts to schools, hospitals and the services we all rely on.
Time and time again, the Prime Minister promised to protect frontline services. But the truth is: they’re getting worse.
The evidence is everywhere you look.
Health cuts are making it harder for people to get the care they need – GP fees are heading toward $100, hospitals are crumbling, and health staff are burning out.
Cuts to public services and infrastructure projects have cost 36,000 New Zealanders their jobs and left 19,000 fewer people working in construction.
And National has only managed to build 45 new public homes since they came into office.
This is just the beginning. Christopher Luxon is planning more reckless cuts to the services that keep our communities strong.
He's already slashed jobs, gutted healthcare, and stalled housing. He chose to cut women's pay while handing out tax breaks to tobacco companies and the fossil fuel industry.
They have done it before, and they will do it again. What’s next?
New Zealand cannot afford three more years of National. People are looking for a better way forward. A government that makes life better for you and your family.
Labour has that vision. It starts with building an economy that lifts every New Zealander up. We’ll invest in good jobs that pay enough to build a life. We will rebuild our health system to make it cheaper and easier to see a doctor. And we will make it easier to buy a home and better to rent.
In the face of the damage this National Government is causing, we roll up our sleeves and we build a better future – together.
Speak soon,
Chris
P.S. Before the year is out, you'll hear more about how we'll make it happen. I’ll keep in touch with updates.
