People across Chicago met Trump’s attempt to deploy federal troops this week with fierce resistance, friend. Activists mobilized, people spoke out, and Mayor Johnson issued an executive order to limit federal deployments and protect Chicagoans’ constitutional rights. Faced with unified resistance, Trump has backed down for now.

The people of Chicago and Mayor Johnson stood strong for immigrant communities and the rule of law. Now, with Trump threatening federal deployments in other cities across the country, we are calling on mayors everywhere to follow Mayor Johnson’s lead.

Local officials have both the authority and responsibility to protect our communities. We will not allow the federal government to occupy our neighborhoods, target our families, or undermine our democracy. The power of the people – and the resolve of local leadership — can stop this.

Now is the time for cities across the country to stand united. We’re calling on you to reach out to your mayor and encourage them to issue a similar executive order like the one adopted in Chicago — one that defends our communities, protects our rights, and rejects federal militarization.
