John,
The news over the last 24 hours has been deeply disturbing.
Charlie Kirk’s murder at Utah Valley University was horrifying, despicable, and utterly against everything our country stands for. Pam and I have sent our heartfelt condolences to his wife and young children. What they’re going through is unimaginable.
Across the country, and across the ideological spectrum, people are rightly shocked. Political violence is a scourge on our democracy. It’s a tragic symptom of a political system that’s become deeply broken.
I’m not going to use this message to offer sweeping commentary about what this moment means. The truth is, I need more time to fully gather my thoughts.
But I do want to say this clearly: every elected official must speak out - right now - and unequivocally condemn this violence.
We can disagree without dehumanizing each other. We can debate without demonizing each other. And above all, we have to keep each other safe.
