The stakes couldn’t be higher. The 22 youth plaintiffs in Lighthiser v. Trump are challenging three executive orders that unleash fossil fuels, block renewable energy, and suppress climate science, threatening their lives, health, and safety.
This two-day hearing will address two critical motions: our motion for a preliminary injunction to stop the implementation of these unconstitutional executive orders, and the governments’ motions to dismiss the case entirely. We aren’t just fighting the federal government; but 19 states and Guam have joined the effort.
At the hearing, our legal team will present unrefuted, compelling evidence through expert and youth testimony on how the President’s orders are endangering young people’s lives and violating their constitutional rights to life and liberty. Our witnesses include a Nobel Prize-winning scientist, a Stanford energy expert, an energy economist, a pediatrician, a former White House climate and energy policy expert, a leader in the renewable energy industry, and several of the courageous young people bringing this case.
The federal and state governments have chosen not to present a single witness.
If the court grants the preliminary injunction we’ve requested, the federal government will be legally barred from implementing these dangerous executive orders. That means:
A halt to the unnecessary and rampant fossil fuel unleashing
Removing the government’s blockades to wind and solar
and an end to the dismantling of life-saving climate science
The preliminary injunction would protect the plaintiffs from these harms while the case moves forward to a trial on the merits.
Thank you for standing with these brave young plaintiffs. Whether you show up in person or help spread the word from afar, your voice matters.
With gratitude,
The Team at Our Children’s Trust
