JOHN,
Β
Itβs been 24 years since September 11thβa day forever etched into Americaβs memory.
Β
2,977 lives were taken.
Countless families forever changed.
And a nation left grieving, determined to ensure such evil would never strike us again.
Β
Yet somehow, decades later, America is still giving money to the Taliban. If youβve been with me for a while, you know Iβve fought tirelessly to end this disgrace. The House passed my bill, but weβre still waiting on the SenateΒβand I wonβt give up until itβs on President Trumpβs desk.
In President George W. Bushβs address to the nation on that terrible day, he said, βTerrorist attacks can shake the foundations of our biggest buildings, but they cannot touch the foundation of America.β
Those words still ring true today, but hereβs the hard truth: Every dollar our government allows to slip into the hands of the Taliban chips away at that foundation.
We can never bring back what was stolen from us on that dark dayβbut we can honor the memory of the innocent lives lost. The best way to do that is by making sure not a single red cent of American money ever finds its way into the hands of those who plotted, carried out, and still celebrate the murder of thousands of our fellow citizens.
Honoring their memory begins with actionβand that means putting an end to the payments that continue to fund terrorists.
NEVER FORGET πΊπ²
Sincerely,
Tim Burchett
