This week, I co-led an Oversight Subcommittee hearing titled “Better Meals, Fewer Pills: Making Our Children Healthy Again” in my role as Ranking Member. I made clear that the Trump Administration’s policies are, unfortunately, actively undermining the health and well-being of our kids. Every day I come to Congress determined to make sure the next generation has a better future. Yet Health and Human Services (HHS) and the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) have done the opposite, slashing critical programs and spreading dangerous misinformation. President Trump’s “One Big Beautiful Bill Act” will cut SNAP benefits from hundreds of thousands of children and strip Medicaid coverage from 15 million Americans, threatening to close at least 11 Illinois hospitals. These cuts will leave children without doctors, preventive care, or even hospitals in their communities.
Equally troubling, HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has promoted outrageous falsehoods about vaccines, claims so extreme that he compared childhood vaccination to “a holocaust.” These statements are fueling rollbacks of school vaccine requirements in states like Florida, putting children’s lives at risk. Even President Trump said of vaccines this month, “They work. They're not controversial at all. And I think those vaccines should be used.”
During my questioning, I pressed HHS officials on why they shut down a specialized LGBTQ youth suicide prevention hotline just as calls to the line doubled. I also challenged USDA witnesses over Trump’s tariffs, which spiked wholesale vegetable prices by 40 percent in a single month. Families already struggling to put food on the table are being told to do so with less SNAP assistance. And I made clear I will keep demanding answers about Secretary Kennedy’s troubling ties to Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell, including requiring sworn testimony before this committee.
Children in Illinois and across America deserve better. I will keep fighting every day to hold this administration accountable and protect the health of our kids. You can watch my opening statement here and my question line here.

Congressman Krishnamoorthi discusses his efforts to bring down energy prices. (Click the image above to watch each full interview.)

This week, I sent a letter to Secretary of Energy Chris Wright demanding action to protect Illinois families from skyrocketing utility bills caused by the Trump Administration’s energy policies. Starting in 2026, Illinois households are projected to face an average increase of $180 per year. Nationwide, rate hikes are expected to top $38 billion this year alone, hitting more than 57 million Americans at a time when families are already stretched thin. These rising bills are not inevitable — they are the direct result of President Trump’s rollback of clean energy under his so-called “One Big Beautiful Bill Act.” By canceling wind and solar tax credits and pledging to block all new renewable projects, his administration has already forced the loss of more than $22 billion in planned clean energy investments and 21,000 potential jobs. Families are paying more while our clean energy future is being dismantled.
At a time when our electric grid is strained by extreme weather, aging infrastructure, and growing demand, we should be expanding affordable, reliable clean energy — not walking away from it. In 2024, wind and solar accounted for 93% of new power added to the grid, proving that renewable energy is not only vital for our environment but also the most cost-effective path forward. I will continue fighting to hold this administration accountable and to restore support for clean energy projects that lower costs, create jobs, and strengthen our grid. Illinois families should not be punished with higher bills so Donald Trump can play politics with our energy future.
My office would like to hear from you about how the rising costs of electricity and energy are impacting you, your family, and your businesses. If you are a small business owner who has seen your energy costs increase, please contact my office using the Google Form here.

Congressman Krishnamoorthi speaks with Rachel Maddow about the latest Epstein revelations. (Click the image above to watch each full interview.)

Newly released documents from Jeffrey Epstein’s estate have shed further light on the grotesque culture that surrounded his crimes. Among them is a “birthday book” containing vulgar notes and degrading images, including a page bearing Donald Trump’s name in a mock exchange with Epstein that treated the abuse of women as a joke. For the survivors of Epstein’s child sex trafficking ring, more than a thousand of whom may have been victimized, this latest disclosure is another reminder of the casual cruelty and impunity that enabled Epstein for so long.
As a member of the House Oversight Committee, I have been helping to spearhead the investigation into Epstein’s network. What we have received so far — more than 30,000 pages — largely consists of documents already in the public domain. What remains withheld are the financial records, potentially billions of dollars in wire transfers that could expose the full web of individuals who supported, enabled, or participated in Epstein’s activities. These records are essential not only to hold powerful people accountable but also to give survivors long-denied answers about the abuse they endured.
This investigation is not about politics. It is about accountability for crimes of exploitation and trafficking, and about ensuring this never happens again. Survivors deserve the truth, and I will not stop pressing until every last file is released. Without transparency, there can be no accountability — and without accountability, there can be no justice. You can watch my interview with Rachel Maddow here and my interview with Kasie Hunt here.

Congressman Krishnamoorthi speaks about the Trump administration’s threats to send the National Guard to Chicago. (Click the image above to watch the full interview.)

President Trump has escalated his attacks on Chicago — threatening mass immigration raids, boasting about deportations in disturbing social media posts, and even suggesting he would send federal troops into our city. These actions are reckless, unconstitutional, and dangerous. Chicago will not be bullied, and I will not stay silent while our communities are put at risk. The facts are clear. A recent analysis by the Cato Institute found that nearly two-thirds of individuals arrested by ICE under Trump had no criminal convictions, and over 90 percent had no violent or property crimes. Yet the White House has imposed quotas of 3,000 arrests per day, pushing ICE to chase numbers instead of improving public safety. Families are being separated, communities live in fear, and dangerous offenders slip through the cracks.
At the same time, the President’s threat to deploy the National Guard in Chicago would violate the Posse Comitatus Act, which bars using federal troops for domestic law enforcement. That’s why I introduced legislation requiring a governor’s consent before any deployment. Our Constitution does not allow the U.S. military to become a president’s personal police force. Chicago is strong, diverse, and resilient. We will not be intimidated by political stunts that sow fear instead of safety. My message to the President is simple: respect the rule of law and the dignity of every family that calls our city home. You can watch my full interview with CNN here.
