My heart goes out to his wife and his two young children. And only minutes apart—another school shooting here in Colorado. Leaders have a tremendous obligation in this moment of American violence. Instead, Lauren Boebert is stoking the flames. She doesn’t take gun violence or mass shootings seriously. She opposes any and all gun safety measures. She leaves guns out in the open around young children and brings a gun to Capitol Hill. She even attacked Parkland shooting survivor David Hogg after he urged House Republican leadership to take action on shootings. And let’s be honest, this era of political violence started on January 6. Lauren Boebert encouraged that armed insurrection with statements like “I am the militia” and “Today [January 6th] is 1776.” Recently she stated, “God will stand up a 'mighty army’ to save Colorado from the left.” Leaders who glorify violence while ignoring the grief of families shattered by it should face political consequences. Colorado, and America, deserves leaders who will fight for real solutions to keep our communities safe. We need action.
