Jack,

Today marks 24 years since the horrific attacks of September 11, 2001 — a day of unimaginable loss that changed our nation forever.

As we pause to remember, let us honor the nearly 3,000 lives lost, the survivors whose lives were forever changed, and the families who still carry the weight of that day. We also pay tribute to the extraordinary bravery of the first responders, service members, and ordinary citizens who ran toward danger to save others.

In the face of tragedy, our nation came together — united in grief but also in resilience. We saw the best of humanity shine through in the darkest of times.

Today, in times of division and challenge, we must recommit ourselves to the ideals that make our country strong: liberty, equality, and freedom. The best way to honor the memory of September 11 is to live out those values, strengthen our democracy, and continue building a nation worthy of their sacrifice.

We will never forget.

— Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr.
