I’m sure you know by now that I try to be totally honest about our fundraising when I send you these emails. So, here’s the truth:
September 30th is an FEC deadline, which means that at the end of the month we’re legally required to report our fundraising numbers to the FEC.
It’s something every campaign has to do at the end of each quarter (so in March, June, September, and December.) Those numbers are then posted publicly on their website for all to see.
That’s what makes FEC deadlines crucially important for any campaign. If you fail to put up strong numbers at the end of the quarter, it can send a signal to both potential opponents and your supporters that you’re falling behind.
In our case, Big Oil, special interests, GOP Super PACs, Fox News, the right-wing media, and many others will be looking to see if our movement still has the energy and the broad support we once did.
So, we're already 10 days into the month. And at our current rate, we are nowhere close to where we need to be to meet our goals before the FEC deadline on the 30th — over $25,000 short. We have more than enough time to close the gap, but only if everyone does their part.
