Customized Employment in Action
Meet Sule Dalaa, a stock person at an auto parts shop in York, Pennsylvania. Sule’s job is to help with inventory, organizing and stocking the parts delivered to the shop on trucks. Sule labels and sorts the parts alphanumerically—tasks that are a good match for his organizational skills.
In this video, created with ODEP’s National Expansion of Employment Opportunities Network initiative, viewers will hear from Penn-Mar Human Services, a disability provider agency that supports more than 2,000 people in northern Maryland and southern Pennsylvania. Penn-Mar enabled the win-win match between Sule and the Advance Auto Parts shop that needed staffing help. Sule, who has a disability, has been working two days a week for almost a year. He says he loves his job, and his family and others in his life report that it has been a great experience for him. “I tell my whole team and my customers, Sule is my best employee,” says Lora Rinehimer, general manager of Advance Auto Parts. “He comes in, he’s happy, he wants to work. He wants to make other people laugh.”
