White House Breaks Obamacare Mold — Cheaper Plans On The Way
The Trump administration just shook the health care marketplace to its core, unlocking “copper plans” for nearly everyone—plans that Obamacare deliberately kept out of reach for more than a decade.
These budget-tier policies still include preexisting-condition protections and required benefits, but the tradeoff is higher out-of-pocket costs. In exchange, families get dramatically lower monthly premiums—a lifeline for Americans crushed by rising insurance bills.
For years, regulators forced most buyers into costly bronze, silver, or gold tiers, while restricting copper to the young or those with a rare hardship exemption. Meanwhile, premiums skyrocketed and subsidies only masked the pain, fueling the same cycle of inflation.
Now that script is flipped. Copper premiums run about 20% lower than bronze and sometimes far less than gold. For working families, that difference isn’t abstract—it’s hundreds of dollars each month. That’s food, rent, or a car payment finally within reach again.
