Department of War Considers Authorizing Military Attorneys to Serve as Immigration Judges ([link removed])
To reduce the out-of-control backlog faced by U.S. immigration courts - which reached almost 3.5 million pending cases as of July - the Department of War is planning to authorize 600 military attorneys to serve as temporary immigration judges. The move is part of the Trump administration’s multi-pronged strategy to finally tackle the many overlapping crises plaguing our immigration system.
Federal Appeals Court Temporarily Blocks Deportations Under Alien Enemies Act ([link removed])
The ruling marks the latest development in a high-profile legal battle between the Trump administration and the ACLU over use of the AEA to remove illegal aliens. FAIR will continue to monitor ongoing litigation addressing the AEA and will provide updates on future developments.

Chicago Mayor Doubles Down on Sanctuary Status as Immigration Crackdown Nears ([link removed])
In response to the Trump administration’s pledge to “ramp up” immigration enforcement in Chicago, Mayor Brandon Johnson has moved to block the effort, reaffirming the city’s sanctuary status and further barring the police department from cooperating with federal immigration officers or military personnel.
DHS Terminates 2021 Designation of Temporary Protected Status for Venezuela ([link removed])
Last week, DHS announced that it had terminated the second of Venezuela’s two Temporary Protected Status designations. The move marks the latest measure in response to the Biden administration’s blatant, last-minute attempt to shield over a million illegal aliens from deportation by extending their TPS status.
USCIS Taking on Enforcement Role to Combat Illegal Immigration ([link removed])
Last week, USCIS announced that it would be expanding its law enforcement capabilities by adding special agents tasked with certain enforcement authorities. These agents will be tasked with investigating, arresting, and presenting for prosecution those who violate our immigrations laws.
