Trump’s manufactured chaos is once again threatening a government shutdown. But this time, Democrats must band together and fight back with the limited power they have. While Republicans have the Senate, the House, and the White House, they still need seven Democratic senators to vote for their bill to fund the government by September 30.
And we say the Senate shouldn’t pass a funding bill unless critical needs are met for the American public.
Here’s what you can ask your senator to demand during this fight:
No rubber-stamping Trump’s nominees until his federal takeover of our cities (e.g., D.C. and LA) ends.
Continue to withhold votes until critical health care cuts in Trump’s Big Ugly Bill are repealed and we get support for bills like the Protecting Health Care and Lowering Costs Act.
Protection of immigrants and communities under attack by ICE and authoritarian policies.
We are tired of seeing our neighbors violently attacked and kidnapped under Trump’s authoritarian regime.
We are tired of seeing Trump sow chaos in our communities to distract us from the fact he refused to release the Epstein files.
We are tired of accepting horrible legislation that will kick 17 million people off of their health care and slash premium tax credits from the Affordable Care Act—like the Big Ugly Bill.
Republicans under Trump have shredded traditions and norms. The only way that we win is by Democrats showing they’re ready to fight—and they need to hear that directly from people like you and me.
