| Friend, Iryna Zarutska fled the war in Ukraine in search of safety. She came to America hoping for a better life. Instead, she was murdered on a Charlotte train by a man with 14 prior arrests who never should have been back on the streets. This is what happens when judges put ideology over public safety. In this case, Magistrate Judge Teresa Stokes released a repeat criminal—while also running a treatment center with government contracts. It reeks of conflict of interest, and it cost Iryna her life.
