Email from Political Research Associates   Hi John, You don’t need me to tell you about the unprecedented attacks on democracy this year—from forcible disappearances of immigrants and Palestine solidarity protesters, to the deployment of the National Guard into our cities, the attempted erasure of trans and LGBTQ people, and so much more. This has been a heart wrenching year, to say the least. After having joined PRA this year, I know there’s no place I’d rather be. For years, I knew PRA as the go-to place for cutting-edge analysis and movement strategy to defeat antidemocratic forces. Thanks to supporters like you, we have served that role for over 40 years since our founding in 1981. To continue this work, PRA needs to raise $100,000 by the end of September. Help PRA raise $100,000 to block authoritarian forces In fact, visionary feminist Jean Hardisty founded PRA in 1981 exactly for this moment. She built PRA to be so much more than a hub of unimpeachable research and analysis. We do timely research to inform and sharpen frontline movement strategy with hundreds of movement partners, and spur narrative change within the media landscape and with journalists to more accurately, and powerfully report on antidemocratic forces. Power the strategy to flank frontline movements defending our rights To meet the skyrocketing demands on our strategy and analysis this year, PRA is prioritizing the following: Building and strengthening a united front of frontline pro-democracy organizations in the face of Trump 2.0 and Project 2025 Aligning narrative and strategy about the central role gender plays in how authoritarian regimes erode democracy with media, journalists, LGBTQ and reproductive justice organizations Producing research and partnering to develop strategy to defend communities most under attack, including analysis on anti-immigrant movements, anti-Muslim bigotry, antisemitism, the Christian Right, White Nationalism, and anti-gender attacks. Your support goes directly to flanking frontline groups to translate research into strategy and power for democracy. Transform research into power against authoritarianism now I’d also love to share with you a story about how PRA turns research into strategy and power. In 2024, foreseeing the likelihood of another Trump presidency, and noticing the lack of unified strategy amongst social justice nonprofits across issues, PRA co-convened a weeklong meeting of 65 frontline organizations and networks in Atlanta. Together, we developed a 50-state strategy and narrative change approach to fight against Project 2025 and attacks on democracy. Today, the coalition continues to meet regularly to discuss strategies to build power, reclaim the narrative, and protect civil society and social justice organizations from security threats and repression. But we need your help to continue and expand this work. Will you help PRA raise $100,000 by the end of September? Your trust and deep investment in our work to make sense of and navigate this moment continues to give me hope! If you have any questions or would like to set up a meeting to discuss our work and plans, please reach out to me by responding directly to this email.
