John,

Back in June, we called out Joni Ernst for the cruel "we all are going to die" comment she made to constituents who were concerned about losing their Medicaid coverage as a result of Trump's billionaire budget bill, which Joni proudly supported. And we warned that if Republicans continue to be this careless with the health and wellbeing of voters nationwide, it wouldn't be long until the ripple effect reached the ballot box.

Well, turns out Sen. Ernst doesn't want to find out: she just announced she's not running for reelection next year.

Joni knows it, and so do we: The Republican Party's reckless, dangerous agenda and cruel nonchalance is not popular with voters, and it will cost them big in 2026.

With your help, even more of Joni's colleagues will see the writing on the wall. We're going to continue sounding the alarm, because we're not letting the GOP get away with their blatant disregard for our communities.

Donate to hold more extremist Republicans like Joni Ernst accountable:

Last week, GOP Sen. Joni Ernst said the quiet part out loud at a town hall.

When a concerned constituent pointed out that people would die as a result of Republicans' devastating proposed cuts to Medicaid, Ernst's response wasn't concern. It wasn't urgency. It wasn't compassion. It was a shrug, a smirk — and six chilling words:

"We all are going to die."

This is the Republican agenda in action: Prioritize billionaire tax breaks above all. Cut off lifesaving medical care from the people who need it most. Slash services families rely on — and then brush off the human cost.

At EMILYs List, we're sounding the alarm. It's still early in the cycle, but comments like this are a clear signal to us: It's time to take a closer look at states like Iowa and races like Joni Ernst's (who happens to be up for election in 2026!). We've seen this kind of cruel nonchalance from Republicans since the day Trump arrived at the White House. Comments like Ernst's don't just expose how dangerous the Republican agenda is — they also create real political vulnerability. The public outrage in response to Ernst's remarks has proven one thing: Voters across the political spectrum are paying attention, and they're furious.

If Republicans are willing to be this brazenly dismissive and careless to their own voters just to stay in Donald Trump's good graces, it won't be long until the ripple effect reaches the ballot box. In fact, they may be more beatable than anyone thought.

John, will you donate today to help us hold Republicans like Joni Ernst accountable?

We're not exaggerating when we say: Republican policies have a body count. And if we let these candidates go unchallenged, it will only get worse.

Thanks for stepping up,
