This week my office announced an arrest and the filing of felony charges:
You’ve probably heard politicians in Washington talk endlessly about “fraud, waste, and abuse.”
It’s become a catchphrase. But instead of protecting people, it’s being used to undermine critical programs like Medicare and Medi-Cal — and to justify slashing support for families, workers, and seniors.
This week, my office took action to go after real fraud and abuse hurting our people. We announced an arrest and filed felony charges for alleged severe neglect of residents at an elder care facility in San Diego County.
The owner of the facility left it severely understaffed. Residents were often left in bed all day in soiled diapers — sometimes for days at a time. They suffered from bed sores, dehydration, and malnourishment.
No one should be treated this way. It’s horrific to imagine our parents or grandparents suffering like this, and it won’t be tolerated in California.
That’s the difference: when I talk about rooting out fraud and abuse, it’s not a slogan. It’s about protecting Californians — especially the most vulnerable among us like children and older Californians — from harm, cruelty, and neglect. And it’s about stopping those who defraud Medi-Cal, the very program that supports the care our seniors rely on.
As Attorney General, I’ll keep standing up against real abuse and real fraud — not using it as a political talking point, but treating it as the crime it is.
If you agree this work is critical, will you chip in today to my re-election campaign so I can keep fighting for seniors, families, and all who call California home?
