Bill Colley, a radio guy, seems so hellbent on discrediting the Idaho Gang of 8 that he is actually discrediting himself in the process.
Where was Bill Colley when previous conservative legislators supported YAL and were associated with Hazlitt, YAL’s “coalition of liberty legislators”?
It wasn’t until after this letter was sent (notice drugs weren’t even mentioned at this point… because it was all about Mike Moyle) that Colley got on his high, lying propagandist horse.
They signed this letter, stating that they valued the relationship they had with YAL. These are great current and former legislators, by the way, so please don’t misunderstand my use of the above letter.
As is stated in this article [ [link removed] ], none of the current “Gang of 8” have supported any type of drug legalization. In fact, many have come out against it on social media. Here are two examples:
Every single one of the Gang of 8 supported House Bill 7, which imposed a penalty for possessing less than 3 ounces of weed. If they supported drug legalization, you’d think they’d be against this sort of penalty.
I’m not here to defend YAL. They are a huge organization that can defend itself. However, after doing a quick search, I found out what bills they are supporting across the US this year (2025). You can find the list here [ [link removed] ]. I did not see a single bill that involved legalizing drugs. That doesn’t mean I didn’t miss any in that list of over 2300 bills, but nothing stood out, and it’s obviously not their number one issue like many seem to imply.
The only bill relating to marijuana, that I could find, was SB54 out of Missouri which deals with patient privacy and states that no state agency or state employee shall disclose any personally identifying information of persons who have applied for or obtained a qualifying patient identification card, a qualifying patient cultivation identification card, or primary caregiver identification card for medical marijuana to the federal government or any federal employee, or other unauthorized third party and no marijuana dispensary shall create or retain any record containing a consumer's identifying information upon the consumer's written request.
It is clear what is going on. The Gang of 8 needs to be discredited (along with conservative organizations like Stop Idaho RINOs, Idaho Freedom Foundation, Idaho Second Amendment Alliance, and others) because they aren’t falling in line with Moyle. Remember, it all points back to Mike Moyle. Everything that has happened with this entire divide within the conservative movement, dating back to before the 2024 primary, begins with Mike Moyle.
It wasn’t until after the above letter was sent, and YAL essentially said, “Sorry, we will still target Mike Moyle” that they sent another letter in May (the following month), shown here [ [link removed] ], where they decided to use the legalization of marijuana as a reason to withdraw from Hazlitt.
Don’t get me wrong, I am 100% against the legalization of any illegal drug here in Idaho. We’ve all seen what it does to other states once it happens.
The point I’m making is that this was never really the reason they left. It was all about YAL going after Mike Moyle. They also stated, in the second letter, that they weren’t seeing enough support from YAL in the primaries.
So which is it? YAL’s legalization of marijuana stance (which was there when all of these legislators signed up originally), or the fact that YAL did not spend enough on their campaigns?
What’s happening here is a clear and concerted effort to discredit solid conservative legislators and organizations. What’s more alarming is the new establishment’s regurgitation of the old establishment’s talking points. Here’s one from Sarah Chaney, the wife of former Representative Greg Chaney (and a former candidate for District 10), that is being regurgitated currently to attack the Idaho Freedom Foundation.
Here’s another from Chaney’s failed political action committee:
What has been is what will be, and what has been done is what will be done, and there is nothing new under the sun.- Ecclesiastes 1:9
Can we just get back to honesty and supporting all of the conservative legislators that we have, rather than pushing the propaganda that Mike Moyle wants to be pushed? Because that propaganda will only further divide the movement.
Stop Idaho RINOs has been accused of “purity politics” because we look at scores from the IFF, our scorecard, and others (scores reflect votes and nothing else, by the way). But the reality is that we have a larger Republican tent philosophy than Moyle’s Loyals do. Their litmus test: “Do you support Mike Moyle yes/no?” That’s it. If you don’t, then you are blacklisted, and the mighty propaganda arm of Moyle is thrown at you.
I like the words of Dorothy Moon in a recent article [ [link removed] ]:
“How does tearing down fellow Republicans advance the principles of faith, family, and freedom that our party stands for?”
Knowing there are many impostors (RINOs) in our party, I’d make it more specific: “How does tearing down fellow conservatives advance the principles of faith, family, and freedom that our party stands for?”
Maybe Colley isn’t a Republican (I truly don’t know), but he, along with the rest of us, needs to think long and hard about that question and respond accordingly because we have elections coming up and we need to kick RINOs to the curb.
