Dear SPUC supporter,
It is now just two days until the House of Lords starts its scrutiny of Kim Leadbeater’s assisted suicide bill. The Terminally Ill Adults End of Life Bill, being sponsored in the Lords by Lord Falconer, comes up for Second Reading on Friday. Because so many peers (around 200) have put their names down to speak, the debate will carry on for another day, on Friday 19 September.
While it is unlikely that a decisive vote on the Bill itself will take place at Second Reading, there could be votes on amendments or on how the Bill proceeds. The tone of this debate will also be crucial in determining the next stages of the process.
Please write to member of the House of Lords now, asking them to oppose this dangerous bill.
You can use the webtool on our website.
The tool will bring up a Peer for you to write to, and an editable template. When you have completed your message, you will then be sent an email with your message, and instructions on emailing it to the chosen Peer. This extra step means that the email is sent from your own email address, rather than displaying as coming from SPUC’s servers. So remember to check your email and actually send the message! Check in your junk folder if you don’t see it.
While we are now providing a template, to ensure as many peers are contacted as possible, please edit it into your own words, and to reflect your own concerns. Your own personal experience and worries are far more impactful than any template text.
Please email the Lords now, asking them to oppose the Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill.

If you have chosen a specific peer to write to, rather than the random one assigned by the tool, you can find their contact details here. If they do not have an email address listed, address your email to a specific member and send to: [email protected]
I explain in more detail how and why we should write to the Lords in the video below - give it a watch!
