We already knew Donald Trump’s cost-raising tariff regime was stupid. Now we know it’s illegal, too!

A federal appeals court rightfully ruled that Trump overstepped his presidential authority and that these tariffs were an abuse of an emergency powers law.

We’re not talking about targeted trade measures. Trump’s tariffs are sweeping, unnecessary taxes on goods from nearly every country on earth, and the American people are paying the price — literally.

But instead of accepting this court ruling, Trump is now demanding that the Supreme Court swoop in and rescue his reckless scheme.

It’s shameful — and millions of people here in Virginia and across the country are feeling the consequences of this President’s idiotic actions with skyrocketing grocery bills and higher prices across the board on the goods families buy every day.

People are losing jobs. Small businesses have been forced to scale back or close their doors entirely. And inflation is squeezing the families who can least afford it.

This is the chaos and cruelty of Trump’s leadership — and it’s exactly why I’ve forced votes in the Senate to try and stop him.

With Congress back in session, I want you to know I’m not letting up.

I will continue to do everything I can to hold Trump accountable and block his harmful policies. And when we can’t do that, I will make sure my Republican colleagues own their positions — getting them on the record when they enable Trump’s worst impulses at the expense of their own constituents.
