Eliminate the income tax, freeze property taxes, and put students first. Here's my plan.
Hi John,
When I was first elected Governor, we set out on a bold path to move Wisconsin forward. We proved that conservative principles—fiscal responsibility, a strong economy, and common-sense reforms—could make a real difference in people's lives.
That same fighting spirit is needed now more than ever. The challenges we face demand a clear vision and a commitment to action, not empty promises. My vision for Wisconsin is simple yet powerful, and it's built on the values we share.
*Economic Freedom & Fiscal Responsibility*
I believe we must continue to put taxpayers first. We should:
* Eliminate the state income tax and freeze property taxes.
The Institute for Reforming Government has helped push this along in the state of Wisconsin. I've been very supportive of their efforts, which you can see here ( [link removed] ).
* Require balanced budgets with surpluses, just like we did when I was in office ( [link removed] ).
* Cut bureaucratic red tape to unleash our entrepreneurs and job creators.
* Protect our state from foreign influence by banning China from owning farmland or businesses in Wisconsin.
* Make healthcare more transparent and affordable by removing restrictions on consumers and requiring price transparency.
* Keep our talented young people here by freezing UW tuition and promoting opportunities for graduates to stay in our great state.
*Education Reform & Student Success*
Our children's future is too important to be left to the status quo. We need to empower parents and students, not systems. That's why I support:
* Education funding that follows students to the school that best fits their needs.
* Banning cell phones in schools to end distractions and improve learning. ( [link removed] )
* A renewed focus on American values by requiring every student to have at least one course in American history and government, including reading the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution, and requiring every graduate to pass the U.S. Citizenship Test.
*Public Safety & The Rule of Law*
Safe communities are the foundation of a prosperous state. We must stand with the brave men and women of law enforcement and send a clear message to criminals. We need to:
* Keep violent criminals behind bars.
* Support law enforcement at all levels.
* Ensure the integrity of every election.
* Appoint judges and justices who uphold the Constitution and don't legislate from the bench.
* Require cooperation with federal authorities to capture criminal illegal aliens.
*Individual Liberty & American Values
* I've always believed in freedom and common sense. We must defend these values, especially for our most vulnerable. My vision includes:
* Protecting women's sports by ensuring men do not compete in them ( [link removed] ).
* Prohibiting sex change surgery for children.
* Requiring able-bodied adults to work to receive government assistance and banning food stamps for junk food.
* Supporting our veterans who have served our country so honorably.
This is a comprehensive vision for a stronger, freer, and more prosperous Wisconsin. It's about building on our successes and tackling today's challenges with the courage of our convictions.
Thank you for your support and your commitment to moving Wisconsin forward.
Sincerely,
Scott Walker
45th Governor of Wisconsin
