The Catalyst Communities Initiative [ [link removed] ] is a comprehensive program to provide education, training, planning, and technical resources to local governments as they work toward their sustainability goals. This initiative offers an array of resources on various environmental, social, and economic topics, to help communities across Michigan make a just transition to decarbonization and meet our MI Healthy Climate Plan goals [ [link removed] ]. The initiative aims to provide a range of resource options to meet communities wherever they are, regardless of geography, population size, or pre-existing knowledge.  The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE), Catalyst Communities Initiative is hosting this webinar series, which is free to communities.

Michiganders are increasingly experiencing frequent and prolonged power outages that pose serious risks to health, safety, and well-being. To meet those needs, many frontline organizations and trusted local institutions are delivering key resilience services. Strengthening their capacity through shared learning, emergency supplies, technical assistance, and investment in resilient infrastructure, such as solar, battery storage, and efficiency upgrades, can significantly improve local resilience. To support this important work, 5 Lakes Energy—on behalf of the State of Michigan—developed the report Guidance for Scaling Community Resilience Hubs in Michigan [ [link removed] ]. It highlights:


* Michigan’s unique resilience needs and vulnerabilities.
* Blue- and black-sky programming to support these needs.
* Where and how to site resilience hubs in your community.
* Technical guidance on resilient power systems.
* Approaches to funding and network coordination.

State and local government staff, nonprofit leaders, community-based organizations, and anyone interested in advancing community resilience in Michigan would benefit from participating in this webinar.

Plastic recycling is surrounded by confusion.  From claims that “all plastic can be recycled” to headlines declaring plastic recycling is a scam.  The truth often gets lost in over simplification. The reality is more complex.  In this webinar, attendees will get details on the gap between public perception and industrial realities.  Presenters will help attendees understand:


* The top myths about plastic recycling and the facts that debunk them.
* How recycling systems work, including sorting, processing and specific end markets.
* Which plastics are recyclable today and which ones pose challenges.
* Practical actions we all can all take to drive meaningful changes in recycling plastics.

This session will help both sustainability professionals and anyone curious about recycling plastics feel informed, empowered, and equipped to cut through the misinformation .
