Your gift fuels the moral force of investigative journalism — the kind that leads to real change.
Email hero: ProPublica - Change begins with fearless reporting. Fall Member Drive.

Hi Reader,

On Monday, we began our two-week fall member drive, and I’m thrilled to say that already, more than 600 readers stepped up with a donation. Join them with your gift of any amount. We need folks like you to support our deep-dive journalism that holds the powerful to account by shining a light on corruption and injustice.

We shine that light with a purpose: Our mission is to use the moral force of investigative journalism to spur change. Our work has led to laws being passed, people resigning from powerful positions, victims receiving compensation and much more. We carefully track the impact of our work. Here are a few recent examples of stories that led to action:

🔦 Aiming to prevent maternal deaths under Texas’ abortion ban, Gov. Greg Abbott signed the Life of the Mother Act into law in June. The law was written in response to our investigations that laid bare how state abortion bans lead to preventable deaths, and it represents a remarkable turn among the Republican lawmakers who were the original supporters of the ban.

🔦 In March, Alaska’s Supreme Court placed new limits on how long criminal cases can be postponed after reporting by ProPublica and the Anchorage Daily News found some cases had spent as long as a decade waiting to reach juries, potentially violating the rights of victims and defendants alike.

🔦 Connecticut lawmakers passed legislation in May to overhaul the state’s towing laws following an investigation by ProPublica and The Connecticut Mirror that revealed how state laws have come to favor towing companies at the expense of low-income residents.

We’ll never stop shining a light on abuses of power and breaches of the public trust in an effort to hold people in power accountable. And thanks to donations from folks like you, we’re growing larger, getting stronger and spurring more impact than ever before. Give today, and help ProPublica ensure that we continue to have the resources to follow the most important stories wherever they lead — for however long it takes.

Thanks so much,

Jill Shepherd
