I just had the opportunity to sit down with Tommy Vietor on Pod Save America. And when he asked me how I was feeling about the state of our race in New Jersey, I didn’t hold back. Here’s what I told Tommy: everything Donald Trump is doing is making life so much harder for New Jersey families. He’s jacking up our grocery bills. He’s taking healthcare away from hundreds of thousands of people. He’s making it harder than ever to find a job, start a business, and heat your home. But just because Trump is a disastrous president doesn’t mean we can expect to just coast to victory in this race — because as I said in the interview, New Jersey swung 10 points to the right last year, and polling shows that this election will be extremely tight. Here’s one of the reasons New Jersey has become so competitive: too many times, for too long, our party has come off as completely out of touch with regular people. I’m working hard to change that. It’s not enough to just say we’re against attacks on our democracy. To win this election — and start to claw power back from Trump and his MAGA enablers — we need to show voters how we will tackle the cost of living and make everyday life easier. And that’s exactly what I intend to do.
One other thing Tommy and I talked about: this is the very first major election since Donald Trump became our president — which means it's our first opportunity to show Trump that the American people reject his authoritarianism and his attacks on working people’s livelihoods. Thanks so much, Mikie |
