John, it’s that time of the year: Back to School Night season!

Although I’m not in the classroom anymore, I can still feel the nerves and excitement of Back to School Night.

At Back to School night, teachers review homework procedures, classroom expectations, and rules. But there’s an elephant in the room: the worries about gun violence.

John, with the gun violence epidemic showing no signs of slowing down, teachers can’t look parents in the eyes and say with absolute confidence that their children will be safe in school or when they get home.

That’s the reality we live in… but it’s not the reality that we have to accept.

That’s why I helped found Teachers Unify: because until teachers can focus solely on teaching instead of practicing for active shooter drills and fearing for the worst day, we still have work to do.

I’m rolling up my sleeves full-time and working tirelessly to make our schools and communities safe, but our team can’t get the job done without your support, John.
