Friend,
In the years since the Supreme Court’s Citizens United decision, the influence of money in politics has grown exponentially. While my campaigns have relied on the dedication and generosity of millions of grassroots supporters like you, elections have been flooded with dark money from billionaires and corporations.
Along with it a newer, and deeply cynical phenomenon has emerged: so-called “Scam PACs.”
These groups pose as champions of Democratic or progressive causes and flood inboxes, texts, and social media feeds with urgent pleas for money. They slap on names with words like “Progressive,” “Blue,” or “Democrats” or use photos of officials and candidates like me to mislead well-intentioned small-dollar donors into thinking they’re directly supporting our campaigns.
In reality, many of these groups spend little of the money they amass from online donations, sometimes less than one percent, on real work helping Democratic candidates win.
These committees, and the consultants who operate them, are running a scam. They’re exploiting good intentions and diverting critical resources away from our urgent effort to win elections and fight authoritarianism.
So please, be cautious of online solicitations asking for your hard-earned money. The best way to support a candidate is always to give a donation directly to their campaign.
When donating on ActBlue, make sure the recipient is the candidate, as displayed here:
Over the next year, you’ll hear from me and my team often. That’s because I really need your help! I am the only Democratic Senator running for reelection in a state Donald Trump won. He and his allies throw everything they have at us.
I’m grateful, as always, for your support. If you’d like to chip in directly to my re-election campaign, you can do so here: https://act.electjon.com/go/Help-Jon-Win
Sincerely,
Jon Ossoff
