Democrats Scramble With New Tactic To Shield Illegals

Durham’s Democrat-led City Council has thrown up new roadblocks against Trump’s immigration push, passing a resolution that effectively shields illegals from ICE enforcement unless federal agents bring a judge-signed warrant.

The vote came after ICE officers appeared at the Durham County Courthouse in July to detain a defendant on felony charges, sparking protests and a same-day march. No arrests were made, but local activists seized on the moment to pressure officials into formalizing sanctuary-style protections.

Mayor Leo Williams admitted the city cannot stop federal operations but insisted municipal workers will now act in “solidarity” with illegal immigrant families. The measure—championed by Council member Javiera Caballero and backed by activist group Siembra NC—orders staff to resist ICE detainers, escalate training, and report obstacles to carrying it out.

Critics say this is proof Democrats prioritize the comfort of illegals over the safety of law-abiding citizens. For Durham, it’s another case of blue leaders bending to activists while undermining the law.
