While the global fashion event has increasingly acknowledged and even showcased sustainable fashion, it continues to enable an incredibly harmful industry. Did you know that since 2000, clothing production has doubled globally, and the average person buys 60% more clothing but keeps the items for half as long? And that modern clothing is increasingly made of toxic chemicals and microplastics? The sheer volume of and demand for production contributes to global carbon emissions, water waste, and major labor issues, including wage theft and unsafe working conditions, largely for women aged 18-24. Green America is here for its first ever Flourishing Fashion Fall! In the coming weeks, join us to learn more about the sustainable fashion industry and why it’s so important we act. First up, workers who create our clothes need to be paid for their labors. Most people who work in the apparel industry across the world are women of color, aged 18-24, earning poverty wages while working in unsafe, grueling conditions and exposed to hazardous materials. >> Tell Amazon and Adidas to pay $1 million to workers who made their clothes << Across the Green America website and social media channels, get ready to: Put together a chic sustainable outfit through thrifting, using what’s in your closet, and choosing safe textiles! Join us at the Radical Clothing Swap in Los Angeles!
As former Vogue Editor-In-Chief Diana Vreeland once said: “Fashion is part of the daily air, and it changes all the time, with all the events. You can even see the approaching of a revolution in clothes. You can see and feel everything in clothes.” We’re excited for you to join us and impress even Miranda Priestly with your new fashion knowledge and styles! |
