Dear John,
The EPA just proposed repealing the legal foundation of America’s climate policy, the 2009 Endangerment Finding. That rule says carbon pollution is dangerous and must be regulated. Without it, the EPA would no longer be obligated to limit greenhouse gas emissions from vehicles, factories, power plants, or any major polluter.
This is exactly what Donald Trump and Big Oil have been pushing for. Trump has spent years trying to dismantle the Endangerment Finding. Now his allies inside the agency are giving it another shot, hoping people are too distracted to notice. If this goes through, every major climate protection could vanish.
The fossil fuel industry has spent decades trying to block the science, stall clean energy, and gut regulation. This rule would give them what they’ve always wanted, a blank check to pollute, without consequences or oversight.
The EPA is using Big Oil’s talking points, claiming that U.S. emissions don’t matter globally and that clean car standards cost too much. It’s the same logic we heard from Trump. Same lies, same agenda, different packaging.
The public comment period is open until September 22. We must respond with overwhelming opposition to stop this plan and preserve the legal framework that gives the government power to act on climate.
If this repeal goes through, it will create a massive regulatory void. States would be left to deal with climate change on their own, with no national strategy. The federal government would lose its strongest tools for holding polluters accountable. Any chance of aggressive climate action would be stalled, not just for the next year, but for the next generation.
Trump is making good on his promise to tear up environmental law. His fossil fuel donors are getting everything they want. This is a complete surrender of the government’s responsibility to act on climate.
Big Oil is already celebrating this proposal behind closed doors. They want to keep burning fossil fuels and blocking climate progress for as long as they can. We can’t let that happen.
We can stop it, but only if we act now. Public comments are a matter of legal record. The more opposition we generate, the stronger the case to challenge this repeal in court and reverse course in the future.
Send your official comment now. Fight back against Big Oil’s power grab. Tell the EPA to keep the Endangerment Finding and protect the climate.
Let’s defend the planet and hold the line against Trump and Big Oil.
